Karres & Brands Landscape Architects (Netherlands) have a strong relationship with Melbourne, as they designed and executed Federation Square in collaboration with LAB Architecture in 2002. Bart Brands is an Adjunct Professor at RMIT and is running a studio this semester ‘kalCHAOS’ together with Marco Broekman.

Recent projects of Karres & Brands Landscape Architects focuses on ways to implement change and the ‘unexpected’ into the design-process. The projects ‘investigate’ how we can deal with changes and so called ‘accidents’ that occur in the design-process, in order to produce designs with an accumulated wealth and a broadened dynamic way of bottom-up planning.

The lecture focuses on current work of Karres & Brands and focuses on projects on the ‘border’ of urban planning and landscape architecture situated in the Netherlands and European countries. Marco Broekman works as a project leader at Karres & Brands and teaches at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam + Rotterdam.
